The latest wave of minimally invasive technologies — such as robotics systems, catheter-delivered therapies, neurotech, miniaturized devices and next-generation implants — can reduce procedure complications, shorten recovery times, cut costs and offer new options for patients that need life-saving care.

But these device innovations don’t come easy. They require a deep understanding of unmet needs and unique expertise in materials (like nitinol), components and manufacturing processes, whether that expertise resides in-house or comes from suppliers, contract development and manufacturing organizations or other outsourcing partners.

Medical Design & Outsourcing aims to bring you that expertise through our magazine and website. Minimally invasive medtech is one of our top priorities due to the opportunities for device developers and the patients they serve.

In recent months, I’ve interviewed engineers and device development experts from Edwards Lifesciences, Capstan Medical, Jupiter Endovascular and Compremium about minimally invasive medtech innovations and the cutting-edge advances that make them possible.

I also asked these experts for tech tips and advice they could offer to help other device developers, including R&D and regulatory strategy, minimally invasive design philosophy, understanding user needs, opportunities for other device developers, and tough questions like how to build in-house expertise and when to engage external partners.

We’ve made these interviews available below as a downloadable special report to take in this expertise and save it for later reference, whether you read it in its entirety or skim, scan and search for something specific. This special report also includes links to on-demand video replays of these interviews, including questions from our virtual audience of device designers and engineers. (Those questions and the responses by our experts are included in this special report.)

If you found this special report helpful or inspiring, please encourage others who might like to read it to come to this webpage to download their own copy. And if you would like to request a particular topic or speaker for our 2026 MDO Min-Vasive Medtech series, feel free to contact me directly by email.

Watch for more interviews and expert contributions at Medical Design & Outsourcing in the weeks and months ahead, including the return of the MDO Min-Vasive Medtech series in 2026.

As always, thanks for the work you do to advance the medtech mission.
